Established in the early 1980s by artist/designer Colleen Kimura, TUTUVÍ is a collection of printed textiles, including clothing, home furnishings, and accessories. Taking inspiration from flora, fauna, and cultural iconography of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, TUTUVÍ expresses uniquely Hawaiʻi-centric motifs with bold designs and a vibrant color palette. Initially, TUTUVÍ designs incorporated beautiful shapes from plants and marine life, as well as geometric motifs from the Pacific. Kimura, however, soon realized how many people in Hawaiʻi wanted to wear imagery that reflects their culture and history, which then became her focus for TUTUVÍ.

“I am always trying to present images (such as squid, ʻulu, kalo, kapa, lauhala, etc.) in uncommon ways so that they are unexpected and a delight,” Kimura says. “I create the surface design for people to sit on, walk over, lean against, decorate tables, and wear. I like making things that people use and enjoy in everyday life.”
